Accredited Internationally

Information for those who are current, full members of an international accounting membership body.

Mutual Recognition Agreement

If you are a member in good standing of an international accounting body that has a valid reciprocity agreement with CPA Canada, or a valid recognition agreement with the CPA legacy bodies (CA, CGA and CMA) you may be eligible to proceed directly to membership with the provincial CPA body for the region in which you are living. Please contact your respective province for more information about becoming a Canadian CPA through a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) or Reciprocal Membership Agreement (RMA):

Memorandum of Understanding

If you are a member in good standing with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), or the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP), you may be eligible for advanced standing in the CPA certification program through the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Depending on your application, you may be eligible for advanced standing directly to the Common Final Exam (CFE) and may be exempt from the 30-month Practical Work Experience Requirement. While you may be eligible to proceed directly to the CFE, we strongly recommend you consider enrolling in the Capstone modules which are designed to prepare you for the best opportunity for success in writing the CFE.

Please contact your Student Recruitment Advisor to find out how to apply to the CPA Atlantic School of Business as a member of ICAI or ICAP.

IFAC Members

If you are an internationally-trained accountant in good standing with an International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) member body with which there is no MRA, RMA or MOU with CPA Canada in place, you may be eligible for advanced standing into the CPA PEP. It is likely that you will be exempt from the prerequisite courses, and required to complete the following:

  1. Challenge exams for Core 1, Core 2, and two elective modules

  2. Complete Capstone 1, Capstone 2, and the Common Final Examination

  3. Complete 30 months of prescribed work experience. There may be an option to apply for full or partial exemption from the prescribed work experience.

Please keep in mind it would be in your best interest to complete all six academic modules, beginning with Core 1.
