May 2022 CFE update

Updated: Feb 16, 2022

The CPA profession continues to closely monitor the evolving public health concerns around COVID-19. Upholding the integrity of the Common Final Examination (CFE) while protecting the safety of our learners and employees remain our top priorities. After careful consideration, the May 2022 CFE will take place from May 25 to May 27, and will be offered using rigorous health and safety measures and the same hotel delivery approach that allowed for the in-person writing of the September 2021 CFE.

As with the September 2021 CFE, candidates will write the May 2022 CFE at multiple hotels in the usual cities where the CFE has been held in the past. Each candidate will be assigned their own hotel room for the duration of their examination. Within each room, candidates will have access to their own washroom and writing desk. Candidates will be provided with CPA-issued laptops to write the CFE.

In order to write the CFE, we anticipate you will be required to provide proof of full vaccination with Health Canada-approved vaccines or a vaccination exemption for health or religious reasons. The final vaccination dose must be administered no later than two weeks prior to the CFE. We also anticipate that candidates who are not vaccinated will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 test. More information on negative test requirements will be available prior to the CFE. These requirements are subject to change based on new public health orders or further requirements set by writing centres. As public health orders may differ from one province to another, the provincial requirements will be followed.

In the coming weeks, you will receive venue details, arrival times, and other information about the comprehensive measures in place to mitigate the risks related to COVID-19. You will also be asked to sign a waiver, acknowledging these health and safety risks.

Please note that the decision to use the hotel model is applicable only for the May 2022 CFE. The profession will determine the delivery model for future CFEs, in accordance with public health guidelines, at a later date.

The CPA profession will continue to monitor the evolving public health concerns around COVID-19 and remains committed to you and your pursuit to attain the CPA designation. We thank you for your resilience, patience, and flexibility during this ever-evolving situation, and wish you well in your studies.
